FAQ: Can I modify the required criteria when creating a password for my database or enable expiration?

It is possible to modify the required criteria, to require password changes on a defined schedule, or to prevent the use of old passwords.

To make the modifications, you need to:

Administrator > System > System Settings > User Account Policies

Password Policy

You can require certain criteria when creating a password:

  • Minimum password length
  • Requires an uppercase letter, A-Z
  • Requires a lowercase letter, a-z
  • Requires a number, 0-9
  • Requires a symbol, such as $ or @

Simply toggle to "Enabled" for what you want to enforce.

Password Expiration

You can schedule a time to require users to change their password.

To do this:

  1. Toggle the option to "Enabled"
  2. Indicate the number of days after which password reset will be required

Previous Passwords Reuse

You can prevent users from using old passwords to ensure the cybersecurity of your database. You can also decide the number of old passwords stored by MyGeotab that cannot be used during password reset.

To do this:

  1. Select "No"
  2. Enter the number of passwords stored by MyGeotab

Saving Changes

Once the modifications are completed, click "Save" at the top of the page. Your modifications will take effect immediately.
