Geotab Drive: What to Do When DCE Is Offline?

The Geotab Drive application is designed to operate even when the cellular network connection is unavailable.

1- Offline Operation

2- Driver Actions Required

3- Network Connection Restored

1- Offline Operation

In case of loss of cellular network, the Geotab Drive application will display a message on the screen indicating that the connection is lost.

During this period, all data will be saved in the cloud solution to preserve all data until the connection is restored.

In the MyGeotab application, a cloud icon will indicate the vehicle's position during the loss of network connection.

2- Driver Actions Required

  1. The driver travels through an area without cellular coverage without making stops.
    1. The driver doesn't need to take any action. The application will leave the driver in the last status before the loss of connection, i.e., driving (D), and no changes will be made unless the driver manually presses a status.
  2. The driver makes stops or works in an area without cellular coverage.
    1. To keep their activity log up to date, the driver must manually change statuses throughout the day. They must manually indicate their working (ON), driving (D), and rest (OFF/SB) statuses.
    2. If these changes are not made, the driver's status will indicate driving (D) for the entire offline period, and the availability in their application will not be adjusted.

**Important** Failure to make changes may result in a violation of CSR401 (Failure to keep daily records up to date as required by the Regulation), resulting in a loss of 3 points for both the driver and the operator. 3- Network Connection Restored

The Geotab Drive application will display a message at the top of the screen to inform the driver that the network connection has been restored.

All statuses recorded within the device will be automatically transferred to the database, and the driver's activity log will be updated. Manual statuses as well as statuses recorded by the device will be visible in the driver's activity report.

In MyGeotab, the route and speed profile will be available and can be viewed.
