What is 3G Sunset?
To better support their 4G LTE and 5G networks, mobile operators are phasing out (sunsetting) their 3G networks. To avoid service disruption in the U.S., Geotab GO devices running on 3G networks should be upgraded before their expiration date listed below.

If you have vehicles going to the United States that are equipped with a GO7 modem (device serial number begins with G7), please contact us to begin the device upgrade process below.

End dates of the operator's 3G network

AT&T: February 22, 2022

Sprint: March 31, 2022

T-Mobile: June 30, 2022

Verizon: December 31, 2022

NOTE: Operators fulfill their cellular wireless coverage using their own infrastructure as well as roaming partners. Roaming partners may deactivate network spectrum without notice.

Having now started the migration of Canadian customers since November 2021, we are entering the final weeks for the migration of our GO7 devices to the latest GO9 technologies. These are available at no cost to ProPlus customers, thanks to our technology guarantee.

In addition, for customers affected by this change, AttriX is offering the purchase of GO9 discounted to $75 for ELD devices on the Pro, Regulatory and Basic HOS plans.

Non-US devices roaming in the US.
GO6 and GO7 devices using non-US carriers normally roam on one or more networks while in the US.

However, after February 22, 2022, these non-LTE devices will only roam on T-Mobile's 3G and 2G networks. T-Mobile's 3G network will be closed on July 1, 2022. T-Mobile's 2G network will be closed at the end of 2022.

Roaming is subject to T-Mobile network availability and coverage, and is subject to change without notice. Therefore, operators and Geotab are unable to provide coverage guarantees.

If your vehicles have a device with a serial number beginning with G7 and are making trips in the U.S., the best way to ensure continuous coverage is to upgrade to a higher performing LTE device (GO9).

Steps to follow
1. Check which devices need to be upgraded on MyGeotab

Go to the "Vehicles & Assets" page in your left-hand menu.

Click on the "Sort by:" button and select "Device Type".

Upgrade devices that have a G6 or G7 at the beginning of their serial numbers.

Check with AttriX support to make sure the list is accurate.2. Order your GO9 LTE devices

Contact us by email (support@attrix.ca) to submit an upgrade order for the devices you have identified. GO7 devices equipped on the ProPlus package come with a technology change guarantee under certain conditions and may be eligible for a no-cost exchange.

ProPlus plan active for at least 12 consecutive months

GO7 devices equipped on Base, HOS (Regulatory) and Pro packages will be discounted to $75.00.

3. Mandatory procedure to follow for GO7 to GO9 migration
A 3G Sunset add-on has been added to your database to make the transition simple and efficient.
In order to access the 3G Sunset add-on you must:

Have an administrator profile in MyGeotab
Disable the feature overview
Press your name (left corner)
Press Options

In the options, scroll down to UI Settings
Disable feature preview
Press Save

4 simple steps to follow

Proceed with the physical exchange of the device in the vehicle.
From the vehicles and assets section in MyGeotab, select the GO7 to replace. *This will transfer the vehicle history to the GO9
Press the 3G sunset button

   4. Enter the serial number of the replacement GO9 device and press Confirm and press Save.

For assistance: 1-888-299-8555 or support@attrix.ca

This procedure will terminate the service of the GO7 and perform the commissioning of the GO9 and avoid duplicate billing.
Under no circumstances will AttriX issue a credit note if the exchange procedure is not followed.

GO7 devices will need to migrate to GO9 devices to avoid signal loss and data transfer before February 22, 2022.

In the event GO7 devices remain covered by T-Mobile's 2G network following February 22, 2022, network availability will be significantly reduced and strongly discouraged for continued ELD (electronic log) use.

NOTE: Operators fulfill their cellular wireless coverage using their own infrastructure as well as roaming partners, and roaming partners may deactivate network spectrum without notice.

How to plan your device installation

Find out how long it takes to uninstall an old telematics device and reinstall the new 4G compatible device in a vehicle.
Example: Replacing the Geotab GO device takes approximately 15-30 minutes.
Calculate the time it takes for an installer to turn off all the devices in your fleet.
Installation time per vehicle x total number of vehicles = total installation time.

Choose your Geotab Certified Installer (it can be an internal or external mechanic or the driver.)
Schedule device installations at the right time.
Analyze your fleet operations: How often do your vehicles return to the home terminal?
On what dates and times are large portions of your fleet at the terminal?
How many devices will need to be sent to each terminal?
