According to Canadian regulations (see the SAAQ website regarding driving and rest hours)
DAY
The day, which lasts 24 hours, begins at the time designated by the operator.
During the day, take at least 10 hours of rest, distributed as follows:
- At least 2 of these 10 hours are not part of the required 8 consecutive hours of rest
- These 2 hours can be divided into breaks of at least 30 minutes
Breaks less than 30 minutes will appear in the total graph but will not be counted, resulting in a violation appearing on the 10-hour rest.
In the example below, the driver has 1 hour and 55 minutes off-duty as well as 8 hours and 13 minutes in sleeper berth for a total of 10 hours and 7 minutes of rest.
We must therefore analyze the details of the statuses.
Rest during the day: 10 hours and 7 minutes
Non-compliant breaks: 2 minutes and 43 seconds + 1 minute and 53 seconds + 18 minutes and 44 seconds = 23 minutes and 20 seconds
Calculation: 10 hours and 7 minutes - 23 minutes = 9 hours and 44 minutes of rest
Therefore, the driver is missing 16 minutes to be compliant.
